Committees & Councils
BIASC/LAV committees and councils are a great way for members to get involved in their Chapter and develop ties to other members. Through their involvement, members have the opportunity to build strong relationships with industry professionals at numerous events over the course of the year.
To sign up for a committee, contact Katy Williams.
Committees
Committees are headed by a designated chairman who is responsible for running the meetings and coordinating with staff. Committees usually have anywhere from 5 to 20 participants. All BIA members are welcome to take part in any of these committees.
Government Affairs
The Government Affairs committee directs Chapter action in Ventura County, the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County and the other cities within LA County. The Government Affairs Committee works on policy issues that directly affects the ability of our members to do business in our region: water quality, air quality, housing affordability, growth restrictions, development fees, the building process and many other building-related issues. The committee typically meets by phone on a monthly basis. Additional meetings, subcommittees and task forces are established as needed.
Purchasing Agents Subcontractors & Suppliers (PASS)
PASS is committed to fostering business relationships between BIA members through quarterly events. The committee meets as-needed to plan events and assemble the directory of projects (PASS Book). To learn how to advertise in the PASS Book, Click Here.
Membership
The Membership Committee works to strengthen our Chapter's membership. It is dedicated to recruiting new members and retaining current members. Committee members work to educate members and potential members on the benefits available through the BIA and work to encourage business between members. The committee also organizes membership drives.
Programs
This committee organizes recurring events, including mini-mixers, general membership meetings and educational seminars.
Associates
The Associates Committee works to increase the invovlement and profile of associate members in the association, and to encourage members to do business with other members. The Associates Committee also steers BIASC/LAV's Project Greenlight.
Special Events
The Chapter's Golf Tournament is one of our most significant events. The Golf Committee is in charge of organizing and conducting the tournament, as well as gathering vital sponsorships. Typically, the tournament takes place in the beginning of June at a prestigious local golf course.
The Installation Committee is in charge of organizing the annual installation ceremony and awards for the incoming board of directors for BIA, SMC, and Women’s Council, an event that typically draws 200-300 attendees.
Local Councils
SMC – Sales and Marketing Council
This council is focused on facilitating the exchange of ideas among members regarding the marketing, merchandising and sale of new homes. The Sales and Marketing Council provides networking opportunities and beneficial information for members who are associated with sales and marketing.
Professional Women in Building
This council supports and enhances the position of women in the building industry while helping to create a responsible image of the industry through community outreach, education and political awareness. They provide networking opportunities and personal growth opportunities.
